1980 Horror - Too Many Cannibals...

Wow, we finished our list of horror films from the year 1980. And now you get to hear about them all! The Changeling: This was a surprisingly good ghost story film. I felt like it was one of the better ghost films we had seen so far, just because it used the usual poltergeist method to great effect. The plot was....a bit chaotic, but it was well made. Alligator: Such fun cinematography! A great ecohorror film, and a great Jawsploitation one, too. The practical effects were on point for the time, and it just had some fun horror moments. Christmas Evil: A surprisingly underrated Christmas horror film that blends psychological horror with the slasher. It was rare to get this kind of combo back then, and all in the setting of Christmas! We're off to a good start here. The Fog: The plot was messy, but it was just such a well-shot and compelling film. It was so entertaining, and I can't believe we didn't get a long franchise out of this. Friday the 13th: My first time seeing thi...

Recap period: 1950s

We finally got through the 1950s! Because we had been struggling with the recap of this period, we are kind of working on recap alongside moving forward. So soon there should be a 1980 blog post!!!! But yeah, 1950s recap was all right. Some Poe films. Some sci fi films. It's a mixed bag. 1950 Fall of the House of Usher: This was definitely worth the skip. Was not that compelling really. 1951 Abbott and Costello Meet the Invisible Man: Just like the previous two, this one was a treat. It was fun seeing the ways the invisible man could be the source of comic relief. Arguably my favorite Invisible Man film! The Thing from Another World: This was fun! It was cool seeing the original version of "The Thing." And I always like arctic horror anyway. The Man from Planet X: This was one of those so-bad-it's-good films. If it had been a bit shorter, I'd almost recommend it. But I definitely won't forget the alien costume in this one. The Strange Door: This one was a tre...

Recap period: 1940s

We got through the 1940s at last in our recap! This one felt even harder to get through than the 30s, even though there were probably more films we enjoyed. So, let's go through em all! 1940 - Black Friday: This was a gangster horror film with Karloff and Lugosi. Despite the big actors, it was definitely bottom of the barrel for these actors. Not worth the watch. 1941 - Telltale Heart: This was a short film. Not bad. At least it's to the point. But the Telltale films are so odd. They just have a weird dissonance with the original story. It's hard to get in the protagonist's head with these. 1942 - Mad Monster: A mad scientist plus wolfman film. Pretty bad. Not worth the watch. 1942 - Invisible Agent: One of the Invisible Man sequels we hadn't watched originally because it was too much of a spy movie. That said, Peter Lorre makes the film. It was cute in its own way. Not very horror, but again, it's cute. 1943 - Dead Men Walk: This is actually a surprisingly twi...
